New York, December 1, 2004: Thick clouds of smoke bursting out of manholes along Sixth Avenue subway tunnell between 13th and 20th Streets. ....Metropolitan Transit Authorities released the following statement -- "Due to a smoke and rail condition on the 6th Avenue Line there are several changes in normal ... subway service..." ....Local news channel, NY1, reported that northbound F train with fifty-seven passengers on board derailed near Herald Square at about 4 AM, disrupting subway service along Sixth Avenue in Manhattan. ....Transit officials say it appears the train, while traveling slowly through a work zone, derailed on an improperly secured section of track that was in the process if being replaced.....No one was injured.
